Meridionality Music Festival - Season 3: "Songs from the Hood"
Golnar Shahyar + Mahan Mirahab
This is the first of four concerts of the traditional Spring music festival Meridionality. Save the other dates: 10.5./16.5./24.5. !
Offering a masterful and fresh approach to the art of musical storytelling, Golnar & Mahan draw together elements of contemporary jazz, Southwest Asian microtonal modes, poly-rhythmic grooves, European chamber and experimental music to create an original sound. A sound that elegantly claims attention to a new generation of creatives in European diaspora whose approach and cultural references are confronting the accustomed ears of what contemporary music could/should be.
The duo improvises its way through structured compositions, powerful grooves and most delicate sounds in such masterful way that one can hardly notice the complexity of their music. A profound sound that consciously escapes clichés and boxes to merge into a genre-less space where the power of musical storytelling is celebrated in an utterly authentic way.
