Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

We ask attendees to pay €2 on the day to cover the costs of any materials, and to buy a coffee for our French speakers who are giving their time freely to help us.

What if I can't attend every week?

The Quil'Langue principle is that we are meeting for conversations : yes, we want to learn, but it's not a course and you won't lose out if you miss a week or two. Come when you can!

What level do I have to be to come along?

We try to plan the sessions for speakers at all levels from Debutant / Introductory to Intermediate / Proficient, providing content which helps all of us to progress in our use of French!

I'm really nervous about speaking French!

There's a lot of us who are nervous! It's natural! We make a plan for small groups at each event, so you're talking with others at similar levels, partnered with a suitable French speaker who will help you express yourself, so you can have an informal café conversation in groups of 3-4.

Is it just for English people?

Most of our attendees will be anglophones of various nationalities, and the event administration will be in English, but anyone who speaks good English who wants to improve their French conversation skills is welcome.

How will I know if what I'm saying is correct?

We aim to have a fluent French speaker working with each group. They have been specially selected (by me!) as kind and supportive individuals who speak French clearly and who are familiar with the difficulties of learning a new language and able to correct mistakes we make.

Are you qualified to teach French?

None of our French speakers are teachers, but they can be relied on to help you improve your spoken French!
